DiBiCoo RSA hosts local stakeholder workshop

On 29 June 2021, the Digital Global Bio-gas Cooperation (DiBiCoo RSA) hosted it first local stakeholder workshop. The Digital Global Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) project is an effort to link European technology providers with emerging and developing markets for new investment opportunities and knowledge transfer.

This workshop aim was to deepen the knowledge and improve the skills of local stakeholders in biogas industries, with topics relating to the basic plans of biogas project identity and risk mitigation, technology, and biogas utilization, business models, and the source of biogas project funding. Capacity building and participants’ knowledge in these activities were tested before and after each session.

To develop knowledge and improve information sharing, the workshop reflected on the latest framework conditions, market opportunities, research needs, financing opportunities and potential ideas for projects. The online event was opened with a presentation and plenary discussion facilitated by Jack Radmore (GreenCape, Energy Programme Manager) and Aleksejs Zacepins (DiBiCoo Project Lead at Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Scientific Project Manager).

The workshop hosted biogas industry experts including:

Alberto Borrello (Biogas Industry Association, Secretary General), who shared his expertise on the South African biogas context and Yaseen Salie (GreenCape, Biogas Analyst), who provided an overview of the South African biogas market barriers.

There were robust discussions in the breakaway rooms sessions which were facilitated by:

  • Dwight Rosslee (Selectra, Director)
  • Mandisa Mkhize (GreenCape, Senior Renewable Energy Analyst)
  • Tawanda Sango (GreenCape, Senior Circular Economy Analyst)

Participants who attended the workshop were able to interact with the presenters during the live session to gain a better understanding of the biogas market landscape and provide feedback and share insights of their own experiences related to the content presented.

Interested parties can access the on-demand recordings of session 1 and 2 by registering on the Enlit-Africa platform here, and the media coverage pre and post-workshop is accessible here.
