A technology study tour and workshops are planned for March to share learnings from four operating project sites within South Africa’s developing biogas market.
The Digital Global Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) project will host the study tour and capacity building workshop in South Africa from 22-24 March 2022. Aimed at business delegations, interested stakeholders and project partners, the hybrid events can be attended in person or online through the Enlit Africa Connect platform.
These biogas technology sessions will have two instalments. The first instalment will take place in Gauteng on 22 March 2022, and the second instalment will be held in the Western Cape on 24 March 2022.
While the capacity building workshops will discuss the current and future potential of digestate management and valorisation.
DiBiCoo is a cooperation project between biogas technology stakeholders in developed and developing market countries. The cooperation sets out to support the European biogas/biomethane industry by preparing markets for the export of sustainable biogas/biomethane technologies from Europe to developing and emerging markets.
This initiative has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No 857804 (DiBiCoo – Digital Global Biogas Cooperation).

Yaseen Salie, WISP facilitator & bio-energy analyst, leading the DiBiCoo project for GreenCape: “The study tour will enable stakeholders from developing and developed biogas markets to see existing technologies in operation under real-life conditions and to learn more about challenges and barriers that were overcame to establish these projects.”
In between the scheduled study tours, on 23 March 2022, GreenCape will host DiBiCoo- RSA Capacity Building Workshop 2. The objectives of the capacity building workshop will provide knowledge-sharing opportunities.
“The aim of this capacity building course will be to provide insight and encourage best practices for digestate management and beneficiation within biogas project development and implementation,” adds Salie.

The secondary audience is comprised of agriculture stakeholders and regulators keen to gain a better understanding of how the de-risk the usage of digestate within agriculture sector.
