Biogas Workshop: Lesson Learned from Biogas Development in the Emerging Economies

On March 18th, 2021, RDI hosted an online regional biogas workshop titled “Lesson Learned from Biogas Development in The Emerging Economies”. The workshop was part of DiBiCoo activities and held under collaboration with Asosiasi Biogas Indonesia (ABGI) and Asia Pacific Biogas Association (APBA). The workshop aimed to facilitate a discussion on regulatory framework, financing scheme, operation and maintenance, and other details of biogas development according to various experiences in the global south. Six speakers with various and extensive experience in biogas development presented in the workshop. The first presenter was Dr.-Ing. M. Abdul Kholiq, MSc, a Chairman of ABGI, and Director of Centre for Environmental Technology, Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Indonesia. The second presenter was Raymond Cheah, a Chief Operating Officer of Green Lagoon Technology, Malaysia. The third presenter was Pruk Anggarangsi, Ph.D., a Director of Energy Research and Development Institute, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The fourth presenter was Jorge Hilbert, a Biogas expert of Rural Engineering Institute (INTA), Argentina. Finally, the last two presenters were Aleksejs Zacepins and Vitalijs Komashilovs, experts from Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU). Different from other presenters who talked about their experience in biogas development in their own countries, the last two presenters introduced a digital information system that could be used by biogas stakeholders, namely DiBiCoo Matchmaking Tool. The workshop was launched by Trois Dilisusendi, a representative of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia and Dr. Johannes Anhorn from GIZ. During the workshop, all participants were actively engaged in discussion and enthusiastic with the topic.
